Quick Tips
This is a collection of pointers that will eliminate your worst classroom management problems. For a deeper dive, please check out the posts.
- Make a seating chart and enforce it.
- Bell-to-bell instruction.
- Never scold the students. If there is a problem, document it and move on.
- When there is a problem, deal with it before you go home. E-mail, write up, talk to the dean or the student’s guidance counselor, whatever fits the situation. Procrastinating breeds more chaos.
- You control the activity, not the students. “If you’re good then we will watch a movie.” This will backfire.
- Have a procedure, system, or process for everything.
